I was looking at an ad for a ‘01 Boxster S and they have the retracting spoiler up in the pictures. IDK if it’s broken and stuck in the up position or if the Boxster S has a button the lets you put it up when ever you want.
Either way this one looks like a CD Tray that got stuck while closing.
Oh yeah you can pop it up when ever. Skip about the first minute of the video.

It could be broken, but there is a button to manually deploy the spoiler.

My tastes are a little out of line with what’s popular, but I think most of the styling on the Boxster is kind of awful, and the weird little spoiler just adds to that.

I love the first gen Boxster, but I get why anyone wouldn’t like it. The second gen is a much better looking car and so was the concept.

I have a 986 and for some reason never liked the 987 (the Spyder being the exception). When they redesigned the 9 81, however, I liked it a lot.
Also (and I know I’m in the minority here) , other than the intakes being half-way up the door, I think the Boxster looked pretty close to the c0ncept. Put some Techart wheels on a silver boxster with the red interior and to me it’s not far off.

The good thing is that you never see it from inside the car, even when it raises at spee d . I’ve only seen it a few times when I manually raised it when washing...there’s a switch under the dash to raise/lower.

I have to agree with you there. It’s good that it can be extended at will, like for cleaning or whatever (maybe it’s necessary to access certain fasteners?), but it’s not a good look. Certainly not something I’d want to display at a car show, or in pics for an ad (except to prove that it still works).

I’m with you. I think it’s a truly terrible design.

Spoiler alert.

That looks like a 986 and, yes, the spoiler does look a little out of place. On the 987, there is a button to manually deploy the spoiler (as someone mentioned), but it also deploys automatically at speeds above 75 mph.
